Bodyweight Training

Bodyweight training, otherwise also known as Calisthenics, has been noted to exist as far as 600 B.C, and has been a fundamental aspect of many military-focused training. This remains true even today, with soldiers and army men going through various exercise drills during their training regiments.

Whilst not as popular now compared to the favoured resistance training, where we utilise relatively easily accessible gym equipment to stimulate muscle growth and strength, bodyweight training remains one of the core fitness tools you can use to improve your general fitness.

Some of the benefits of bodyweight based training include:

  • Ability to train anywhere, with no equipment and minimal space
  • Workouts can be easily combined with cardiovascular-based movements, focusing both on strength and endurance
  • Bodyweight training promotes compound moves due to its nature, allowing to incorporate multiple muscle groups during a workout
  • Bodyweight exercises promote improved joint function and mobility, along with increased stability

The above are just a few benefits of what bodyweight training can provide. In the current day and age, bodyweight training could be an ideal solution for someone who does not have a lot of time on their hands, or is not a fan of commuting to a gym.
